'An
hour of Victorian mirth!'
Delicious songs depicting Pooterish London suburbia with its
Victorian pretensions and its petty annoyances. A world of
gas lamps & hansom cabs, seaside holidays & society dances.
Funny, quirky
and sometimes silly humour that amused our great grandparents,
and about situations that are still familiar to us today.
A must for lovers of Gilbert & Sullivan, and the very British
talent for Comic Song
George Grossmith has two main claims to fame: First, he
created the chief comic parts in most of the Gilbert & Sullivan.
And second, he was the author, with his brother Weedon, of the
comic novel, THE DIARY OF A NOBODY. But he was also for
most of his life a solo entertainer - a one man show with a
piano.
Leon Berger, with access to Grossmith's personal collection,
presents the songs he wrote & performed. The programme is
a flexible 1 hour
length and can be
performed as a whole presentation or in two halves; perfect for
a dinner, a reception or as part of a Festival.
Leon is always accompanied by a pianist at a piano or keyboard
for this programme.
