THE STORY OF OPERA

Opera is often perceived to be about fat people singing long arias and dying of consumption, and started out as entertainment for Kings and Courtiers, actually became the 19th Century’s version of Musical Theatre.

THE FOOD OF LOVE will help to dispel these myths (…well, maybe not all of them) by taking you on a whirlwind trip through the history of opera from those early Royal Courts to a ‘Flashmob’ in your local shopping centre, and showing that even the original material is more accessible than people might think.

A SOCIETY CLOWN

Delicious songs depicting Pooterish London suburbia with its Victorian pretensions and its petty annoyances.  A world of gas lamps & hansom cabs, seaside holidays & society dances.

George Grossmith
created the chief comic parts in most of the Gilbert & Sullivan and, with his brother Weedon, wrote the
comic novel THE DIARY OF A NOBODY.  But he was also, for most of his life, a solo entertainer - a one man show with a piano.

Leon Berger, with access to George Grossmith's personal collection, presents the songs he
wrote & performed.
